India Seals 5-0 Clean Sweep Against Sri Lanka

The doom continued for Sri Lanka as they lost the fifth and last One-Day International (ODI), and India winning the match by six wickets, clinching the series by 5-0.

Lahiru Thiramanne and Angelo Mathews put a hand-on contribution with their partnership of 122 for the fourth wicket, enabling the host to set a decent target of 238 in 49.4 overs. After their dismissals, the hosts lost seven wickets just for 53 runs.

Bhuveshwar Kumar was destructive on the day where he grabbed key wickets at the right time and restricting the Sri Lankans to a below par target.

The Indian batting also had a shaky start but the captain Virat Kohli put a 99-runs partnership with Manish Pandey (36) for the third wicket and then 109 runs with Kedar Jadhav who scored 63 off just 73 balls.

The Indian skipper smashed another century, an unbeaten 110 runs with nine fours to achieve the target of 239 with 21 balls still left in the inning. This 5-0 win against Sri Lanka is the second ODI whitewash for India while playing abroad.

Upul Tharanga clearly stated in post-match conference that the hosts are in crises at the moment with consecutive defeats in Tests and One Day series. He said that they had to improve their game in all three departments to get back to winning ways. The absence of main players has also not allowed Sri Lanka to field their best playing XI after Asela Gunaratne became injured during the Test series. On the other hand, Virat Kohli was delighted that the young Indian brigade had managed to achieve unique milestone on the tour with whitewashes in both the formats over Sri Lanka. He said that the side will be better prepared for series in South Africa.

Sri Lanka is in deep trouble as the hosts are on the verge of getting whitewashed in the one day series after the Test series. There is seems to be never ending chaos in Sri Lankan cricket as selection committee also called it quits over the dismal performances by the national side. The two-match for Upul Tharanga and injuries to players like Dinesh Chandimal and Asela Gunaratne have further aggravated the situation. India on the other hand are unstoppable at the moment with convincing wins over Sri Lanka in both formats.

There is a single T20I remained in the tour which the host will be looking at.
